San Jose Magazines Readers Choice Award: Best Implants San Jose

Dr. Kriss Ghafourpour DDS, FICOI

When dentist, Dr. Kriss Ghafourpour isn’t teaching Student residents for the University of Pacific or the Highland Trauma Center, he is at the Institute of Minimally Invasive Dentistry (IMID) office in San Mateo and San Jose, striving to improve the quality of his patient’s lives. Dr. Ghafourpour discovered his love for dentistry at a young age, when he accompanied his older brother to his courses in dentistry at the University of Pacific in San Francisco. Starting off as a paramedic, Dr. Ghafourpour quickly transitioned from the field of medicine into dentistry when he saw the dramatic new techniques and advanced procedures dentistry had to offer.

Dr. Ghafourpour received his Bachelors degree in Physiology from UC Davis and went on to fulfill his passion for dentistry by receiving his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree at the University of Pacific. Upon graduating with honors, he started on his career path in research and development by exploring treatments and ways to increase outreach to patients who were not able to afford their treatments. After five years in practice he decided to further his education in Implant Dentistry, Anesthesia and Surgical techniques which lead him to internships at Alameda County and Ohio State Medical Centers. With the newly gained advanced techniques under his belt he continued helping his patients utilizing gentler minimally invasive techniques that help build positive experiences for each individual.

As part of the San Mateo Dental Care Group in San Mateo as well as Endodontics and Implantology Associates in San Jose, Dr. Ghafourpour has a focused surgical practice as a general dentist performing wisdom teeth extraction, implants and bone grafting surgeries. Dr. Ghafourpour has received several Awards, including the Best of the Bay, Instructor of the year and earned Mastership status with the International Congress of Oral Implantology.  Two years ago he founded The Institute of Minimally Invasive Dentistry (IMID), which offers a wide spectrum of care under all levels of sedation to help improve and maintain the structure, function, aesthetics and overall integrity of oral health to achieve a more attractive smile. Dr. Ghafourpour and his certified staff, strive to understand their patient’s needs. IMID, according to the website, is a “patient-centered private practice focused on the art and science of minimally invasive techniques.”

The IMID website revealed that a study by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry showed that 9 out of 10 patients believe that an attractive smile is an important asset. To help achieve that perfect smile, the IMID team performs a range of cosmetic dentistry including porcelain Veneers, Tooth Whitening and All-Porcelain Crowns. Yet, Dr. Ghafourpour has seen some of the most confidence boosting results to patients who came into the office to get dental implants. He said, “[the implants] can create a huge social and emotional change [for patients with dentures].”

Dr. Kriss Ghafourpour has been a long time resident of San Mateo County from childhood: graduating from Bowditch Middle school and Hillsdale High School.  Throughout his years he has volunteered for many agencies local to us, such as the Martin Luther King Center and the San Mateo County Sheriffs’ office Reserve Forces. His interest in health care started as a teenager working as a medic for the San Mateo County Emergency Medical Services. This started his path to UC Davis where he studies Physiology and Medical Research. This path laid the foundation to Graduate from the University of the Pacific Dental School with Honors in 1997.

Dr. Ghafourpour lives on the Peninsula and takes great enjoyment SCUBA diving, JET skiing,  Photography and Oil Painting.
